As the gazebo became the epicenter of the sonic journey, the custom-built sound system provided a crystal-clear audio experience that did justice to every instrument’s nuances.
The first set was a masterful blend of classic tunes and Mr Blotto’s own original creations, paying homage to the timeless Grateful Dead catalog as well. The lively, jam-heavy set two unleashed a whirlwind of emotions, with tracks like “Cabbages & Kings” segueing into the soulful “Over & Back,” displaying the band’s improvisational prowess. “Rattle My Cage” allowed Mark Hague’s lead guitar skills to truly shine, captivating the audience with blistering solos.
The Grateful Dead’s spirit was ever-present in the performance, evident in the seamless fusion of “China Cat Sunflower” into “I Know You Rider.” Mr Blotto channeled the Dead’s essence while still showcasing their unique interpretations and arrangements.
